AIChE Area 1a: Thermodynamics and Transport Properties

Area 1a is responsible for programming in Thermodynamics and Transport Properties at the Annual and Spring meetings of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE).

Area 1a differs from other AIChE Groups, Divisions, and Forums in that there is no formal membership, neither in Area 1a nor in its parent organization Group 1 (Engineering Fundamentals and Sciences). Instead, given the breadth of coverage, everyone in AIChE is considered to be on an equal footing with regard to Area 1a and its programming.

Programming oversight is provided via the Area 1a Programming Committee. The chair of this elected group is the overall director of Area 1a. A meeting programming chair for each meeting (fall or spring) is selected by the area 1a chair, typically from among the newly elected programming committee members. New members are elected in the late summer or early fall via nominations and voting by current programming committee members. (See the by-laws for details.)
