Dr. Stanley M. Barnett
Professor of Chemical Engineering, Pharmaceutics
and Food Science
Director, Center for Pollution Prevention
Associate Director, Innovative Energy Collobarative

Research Interests
  • Photobioreactors
  • Separations with Applications to Biotechnology, Environmental Engineering and Pollution Prevention- Membranes and Aphrons
  • Alternate Energy and Carbon Sources
Research Information
He has been sponsored by the Ionics Corporation for work in electrodialysis, for drinking water from seawater, by AMTROL, Inc. for studies on membrane treatment systems, and USEPA, RI Department of Environmental Management, NSF, Pfizer and the Narragansett Bay Commission for pollution prevention, by the U.S. Department of Commerce for research in enzymatic preservation and for scale up of a photobioreactor.   Beside carrying out industrial assessments as Director of the Center for Pollution Prevention, he has performed related membrane research, including nanofiltration, diffusion dialysis, and perraporation. Past Chairman of AIChE's Food Pharmaceutical and Bioengineering Division, Dr. Barnett's work on microbial production by a foam fermentor and drug delivery systems have resulted in United States patents. Past chairman of the chemical engineering department, he also has seven years of industrial experience with Shell Chemical , Esso , and General Dynamics.
