Arijit Bose is Professor and Chair, Department of Chemical Engineering at University of Rhode Island (URI). He has a B. Tech. in Chemical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, and a Ph.D. from the University of Rochester. He joined URI in 1982, after 2 years at Dupont, where he worked in their textile fibers department. He has been a Visiting Scientist at MIT (1989 - working on the finite element method with Prof. Robert Brown, and 1995-96 - working on surfactant colloids with Prof. Alan Hatton), and a Visiting Senior Scientist at Cabot Corporation (2002-2004 - working on new applications for carbon black materials).

    Research:

Professor Bose's current research encompasses colloidal and interfacial engineering, with specific efforts in the areas of nanoparticle/nanostructured materials synthesis and characterization, advanced uses for cryogenic transmission electron microscopy, soft colloid aggregate microstructure evolution and self-assembly dynamics and thermodynamics using both traditional probing techniques as well as microfluidics, and the development of novel self-healing materials. He has cofounded a company, Vitrimark, to commercialize recent findings in the area of biomarker discovery.

See his research page for more information.

    Publications, Honors, and Awards

Prof. Bose has over 75 journal publications and holds 4 US patents; see his publications page for more information.

He has been presented twice with the URI College of Engineering's Vincent and Estelle Murphy Award for outstanding research. He is an Associate Editor of the IEEE Transactions in Nanotechnology and has served on the editorial board of the Journal of Surface Science and Technology.
