Background:

Professor Greenfield joined the department in January 2002 after working for six years in the research labs of Ford Motor Company. His work there focused on applying various modeling approaches to problems relating to the different fluids found in a car. His projects included molecular tribology of "friction modifier" additives in automatic transmission fluid, alternative air-conditioning systems based on CO₂ solubility in liquids, and fuel volatility.

Research:

His research focuses on using molecular simulation techniques to improve the engineering performance of polymers and other complicated fluids of industrial interest. See his research pages for more information.

Service:

As the Victor J. Baxt Chair of Polymer Engineering, Greenfield coordinates polymer research and education activities in the department. When chairing AIChE Area 1a, he oversaw coordinating of programming in the areas of Thermodynamics and Transport Properties for the AIChE Annual and Spring meetings. He is also a member of the department's graduate committee and administers the department's web pages.
