Dr. Harold Knickle
Professor of Chemical Engineering
Research Interests
  • Fuel Cells and Batteries
  • Energy Conservation and Devices
  • Data Acquisition and Control
  • Multiphase Flow, including Gas-Liquid and Gas-Liquid-Solid Phases in Bubble Columns and Packed Beds.

Research Information

A member of Sigma Xi and Tau Beta Pi, Dr. Knickle's research has resulted in jointly authored articles on such topics as "Experimental Studies and Modeling of the Slug Pattern in Two Phase Non-Newtonian Flow," "A Hydrodynamic Model for Concurrent Gas-Liquid Bubble-Slug Flow in Vertical Tubes," "The Effect of Gas Distributors on Holdup and Flow Pattern in Bubble Columns," and "Holdup and Flow Patterns of Non-Newtonian Fluids in Bubble Columns." Recent research has been supported by the RI Office of Energy, RI Water Resources, and NSF. He leads the LSAMP program at URI invovling recruitment and retention of minority students. He has also received support from EPSCOR enhancing the LSAMP program. Current research interests include solid oxide fuel cells and their systems.
