I want a job in Chemical Engineering!

Students from the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Rhode Island find employment in many different areas. Typically our alumni are divided equally among four areas: environmental, biotechnology and pharmaceutical, materials, and energy (including chemical and petroleum fields).

Chemical Engineering degrees lead to well-paying jobs at all degree levels. Our graduates are in demand and receive some of the highest starting salaries for people with university undergraduate degrees. Starting salaries continue to rise each year, as seen in these average starting salaries for graduates nationwide with a bachelor's degree of chemical engineering:

$52,563 ( CNN, 2004, based on data from the National Association of Colleges and Employers)
$53,659 ( CNN, 2005, based on NACE surveys)
$52,000 - $57,600 ( JobWeb.com, 2005),
$55,900 average (NACE survey)
$56,549 ( CNN, 2006, based on NACE surveys)
$59,361 ( CNN Money, 2007, based on NACE surveys)
Approximately two-thirds of URI's chemical engineering B.S. graduates are placed in Rhode Island and nearby Connecticut and Massachusetts areas.
