I just received the summer internship announcement below for a position at the Aerospace Corporation, a company located in Southern California. If any of you are looking for an internship on the west coast, this could be an interesting opportunity.

Subject: Summer 2006 intern position at the Aerospace Corporation
The Space Materials Laboratory at The Aerospace Corporation is seeking a candidate for summer 2006 internship in materials chemistry
· Must be a US citizen. · Must commit for a minimum of 8 weeks (length could extend to 10 weeks). · Flexible start and end date. · Final decision will be no later than Friday April 28th, 2006. · Pay rate is commensurate with level of education and past experience. Also, health benefits will be provided during the summer employment. This summer opportunity is a temporary position.
Potential projects and topics that the intern will potentially investigate
at our Materials Laboratory:
· Development of methods to fabricate new composite materials with single walled carbon nanotube reinforcements. Characterization will include examination of the morphology, structure, and mechanical properties of these nanocomposites.
· Develop novel techniques to fabricate / synthesize electrically conducting polymers with a nanoscale structure, and to characterize the chemical and physical properties of these unique materials for space applications.
NOTE: The undergraduate candidate should have at least completed organic and the associated lab courses. Experience with characterization techniques such as NMR, FTIR and polymer synthesis is a plus. Feel free to e-mail questions using the listed e-mail below.
