"ChE 531: Polymer Engineering"
Subject: Material Science Internships at Bose - Summer 2006 (fwd)
Dear ChE 313 and 531 students,
Job news continues! The listing below for the Bose Corporation, located in Framingham, MA, specifies a chemistry or materials science background, so a CHE or MCE perspective may be a disadvantage. If you choose to apply, I encourage you to mention how URI does not have a materials science major, so students with materials interests must major in CHE or MCE. I also encourage you to mention the materials courses that you have taken, such as CHE 332 or 333. CHE 531 students, also mention 531, since it relates to the viscoelastic topic in one internship.

Subject: Material Science Internships at Bose - Summer 2006
Material Science Internships - Summer 2006 Two summer internships are available in the Center for Material Science at Bose Corporation for a sophomore, junior or senior college student majoring in Material Science or Chemistry with a strong academic record, GPA of at least 3.0, registered full time. The internship will be 40 hours per week, compensation will be commensurate with education and experience. An ideal candidate would demonstrate interest in hands-on laboratory research on proprietary projects; results cannot be used for course credit or publication.
One intern will assist in the Viscoelastic Project correlating the physical properties of elastomers to their chemical characteristics. The internship involves synthesis of elastomers as well as measurement of desired physical properties utilizing instruments in house, to fit various elastomer applications at Bose.
The other internship is available to conduct laboratory testing of experimental electrochemical components, materials and devices and use the analytical instruments in our laboratories for characterization. Experience in chemistry, preferably physical chemistry or material science is desired, such as undergraduate laboratory research experience and/or previous internship in the preferred technical fields.
Location of internships: Bose Corporate Headquarters, located west of Boston in Framingham, MA. It is about a 35 minute drive from downtown Boston, just off the Massachusetts Turnpike. No public transportation is available, so interns must have reliable transportation to our facilities.
