The place to be at URI - the Engineering Living Learning Community!!!

The preparation for a career in Engineering is based on an intense study of mathematics, basic sciences, and applications of engineering principles and concepts common to all branches of the profession. The COE recognizes the quality and uniqueness of its professional programs, and that they are in high demand worldwide. The COE works diligently to provide a vibrant, integrated learning environment that includes a variety of support opportunities for the academic, personal, and professional success of its students.

One of our newest and most highly acclaimedinitiatives to promote the development and academic success of first year engineering students is the Engineering Living Learning Community (ELLC). The ELLC is a dynamic and engaging environment that promotes personal growth and academic success.

What is the Engineering Living Learning Community (ELLC)?

The ELLC consists of two, centrally located on-campus Residence Halls, Tucker and Merrow, populated primarily by engineering students. In addition to living amongst your classmates, you will be able to participate in various programs specifically designed to assist you throughout your first year on campus.

Why should I participate in the ELLC program?

It's all about building a supportive community with our students and faculty. The ELLC provides you with a unique opportunity to live with fellow engineering students who take the same courses as you, in an environment that stimulates academic and personal growth. It's a great place to form study groups, make new friends, meet the engineering Deans, faculty, staff, and upper class engineering students (up close and personal right at your dorm), and find the additional support needed for academic success. Check out what our students in the ELLC have to say about their unique experience there.

Who is eligible, and who should I contact if I'm interested in the ELLC?

Any first year Engineering Student is eligible to participate in the ELLC. If you are interested in living in the ELLC or have questions about it, please contact:

    • Dr. George E. Veyera, Interim Associate Dean, College of Engineering
      E-mail: acadsec @egr.uri.edu   or   veyera @egr.uri.edu
      Phone: (401) 874-5985

How do I join the Engineering LLC?

To be a part of the ELLC, you must select the ELLC as your residence housing program of choice on your Housing and Residential Life Application form. Please note that ELLC rooms are assigned based on date of housing deposit on a first-come-first-served basis, so if you are interested in being a part of this dynamic community, be sure to indicate this on the form.
