Internships

Student Internships

Students elect to have Engineering Internships. They are not a requirement for graduation in the College of Engineering. There are three formal internship programs:

• Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) Student Internships:This program places URI students in paid internships with the NUWC located in Newport, RI.



• Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) Student Internships.



• International Engineering Program (IEP) Internships: Students in the IEP have a six-month paid internship abroad working in the global engineering marketplace.

Career Fairs

There are two career fairs for engineers each year where companies seek students both for full time employment after graduation and also for internships:

• URI Engineering & Technology Job Fair in October
• URI Spring Career & Job Fair in April

At other times of the year companies will send their internship requests directly to the College or to individual departments.

Internship Experiences: Class of 2007-08, Class of 2008-09

Approximately 82% of the Engineering Graduating Class of 2008 and 2009 had at least one engineering internship experience. These experiences included 14% international, 23% out of state, and 22% in URI Engineering Research Laboratories.
