The College of Engineering (COE) at the University of Rhode Island recognizes the importance of creating a culture of inclusivity, where differences are valued and celebrated. It's committment to issues of diversity is evidenced by the mission and goals of the COE Diversity Committee.

Mission Statement

The mission of the College of Engineering Diversity Committee is to increase the representation of under-represented groups to the extent that the face of the faculty mirrors the face of the student body, and to promote an atmosphere of mutual respect for all students, faculty, and staff that allows them to realize their full potential.

Goals

1. Increase the representation of women and under-represented ethnic minority students, faculty, and administrators.

2. Increase the retention of women and under-represented ethnic minority students, faculty, and administrators.

3. Educate the College of Engineering about diversity issues and how to promote a respectful and effective workplace for everyone.

4. Encourage participation in diversity events at the college, state, and national level.

5. Recognize and support diversity activities in the college and university.
