Personal WebpagesThe ECC allows users to create their own webpages. The following procedure can be used to set up your own web space, upload pages and make them available to outside viewers. The ECC is not responsible for the content of any users' personal webpages however does reserve the right to review and/or remove offensive content as defined in the ECC Equipment Facility Use Policy. Use the SSH Secure Shell client, see Server Access, to connect and start a terminal session on Pele (connect to www.egr.uri.edu). type "mkdir web_stuff" to make a subdirectory in your home directory type "chmod 711 web_stuff" to set access permissions on it Use SSH Secure File Transfer (ftp) client, see Server Access, to upload web files to the web_stuff subdirectory. type "chmod -R 755 web_stuff" to allow others to display your pages (this must be entered whenever you add new pages). When you are ready to make the pages available to outside users, send an email to eccaction @egr.uri.edu. Tell us that you have created a web_stuff directory and need apache access set on it. This only needs to be done once. Use: "http://www.egr.uri.edu/~username" to access personal webpages. DreamWeaverMacromedia DreamWeaver software is available to students in the ECC. It is installed on the two PCs with the scanners. Personal webpages can be accessed directly by specifying "Network Drive S:" and web_stuff in the Files menu on the right side. |
