ZULU: New Server Update
MIGRATION
SCHEDULED FOR AUGUST 11-21, 2009
From the current servers, Pele and Humu, to the new server, Zulu.
All computer services (email, web, logins, printing) will be unavailable,
at times during this week, please plan accordingly.
9/3/09 Shut down Pele and Humu - forever! Migration complete!
9/2/09 Merge network ports. Move DNS.
8/24/09 Write new ECCmenu to create users, renew users and change passwords.
8/19/09 Finish converting mail filters and address books. Move DHCP. Create webpage groups and fix ownerships on department websites. Fix OCE access through GSO. Fix NUWC resume database. Install new printer drivers.
8/17/09 - 8/21/09 Begin renewing user accounts, help users install Security Certificates now
required for all email clients: through a new link on the webmail login screen.
If using a local PC mail client (such as Eudora, Outlook, Macmail) you still need to
install the certificate through webmail, then set the PC client to use TLS
authentication.

8/16/09 Clean up all files and scripts and other inconsistencies...

8/15/09 Copied all web files from Pele to Zulu - half an hour.
Copied all user data files from Pele to Zulu - 3 hours.
Copied all mail files from Humu to Zulu - 5 hours.
Converted and relocated all files on Zulu - 7 hours.
Having the conversion team work all weekend - priceless!
8/13/09 Target date for moving User Accounts, User Data, Mail Files, Address Books and Filters -- Saturday, August 15.
8/13/09 Freezing and converting address books, mail filters, web files.
8/12/09 Moving support files. Moving SQL databases.
8/11/09 BEGINNING MIGRATION ! ! ! ! !
8/06/09 Configured DHCP and DNS services.
7/31/09 All user accounts, including faculty and staff, will be expired prior to the move,
everyone will have to renew and reset his/her password after the move.
7/30/09 Wrote scripts to move users and data files.
7/28/09 Installed SSL Certificates.
7/21/09 Evaluated by URI security team.
7/14/09 Installed POP and IMAP. Installed RoundCube for webmail client.
7/01/09 Installed Postfix and Dovecot for email.
6/11/09 Installed CUPS and wrote backend for printer quotas.
6/01/09 Installed LDAP, created schema to cover accounts, Samba, and printer quotas.
5/20/09 Installed Ubuntu (JauntyJackalope) 9.04 Linux.
5/15/09 Purchased Server, Dell PowerEdge T610, with dual i7 quad core hyperthreaded processors, 48gb memory, 8*1T hard drives in 6 RAID arrays, and dual gb ethernet ports.
