ISE 412- Statistical Methods and Quality Control

Study of statistical methods and quality control in engineering applications including sampling and sampling distributions, statistical inference, quality improvement tools, control charts, process capability, design of experiments, and acceptance sampling. (Lec. 3)

Course Website

Prerequisite: ISE 411, MTH 243 or permission of instructor.

Textbook

  • Probability and Statistics for Engineers and Scientists, 7th edition, Walpole and Myers, Prentice Hall, 2002 .

Course Objectives

Students completing this course will have

  • An ability to collect data, measure variation, make statistical inference, and conduct hypothesis testing.
  • An ability to design and analyze engineering experiments and draw conclusions.
  • An ability to use modern computing tools and statistical software to analyze data and draw conclusions when solving problems.
  • An ability to employ appropriate statistical tools to examine and enhance process and product quality.
  • An ability to communicate with others using statistical languages when solving quality and related problems.
