Internship Opportunity
Duration: Summer 2007 (June 4th to August 10th)
Location: Wallingford, CT
Job Description: The US Postal Service is seeking team oriented, energetic students to serve as interns at the Processing and Distribution Center. Interns will be participating in a 10 week study involving the utilization of Powered Industrial Vehicles. In addition to “real world” work experience in an industrial environment, interns will gain an understanding of a broad range of operations and mail flows within a mail processing facility.
Responsibilities: Interns
will observe platform operations and conduct time studies in order to
identify specific areas of possible improvement. Collected data will be analyzed and the results will be used in order to make adjustments to staffing and logistics. Interns will help develop a model that can be implemented in multiple facilities that will aid managers in increasing productivity. Also required, are a written report and a final presentation to management upon completion of the project. (Interns will work 40 hours per week and will be expected to collect data during all three shifts as needed).
Requirements:

Rising Junior or Senior pursuing B.S. in Industrial Engineering
* Software knowledge preferred: Microsoft Office, Simul8, AutoCAD
* Coursework completion preferred: Statistical Analysis, Work Design, Production Control, Operations Research
Salary: $13.00/hr
