May 2007 Graduation

The Commencement for Graduate students took place on May 19, 2007 in the Ryan Center. Melinda McGurer and Pejman Hassanzadeh received their PhD degree in Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering and Cyrus Agarabi received his MS degree in Manufacturing Systems Enginering.

In the May 20, 2007 College of Engineering Commencement, Brian Dungey, Sarah Gabryluk and Jeffrey Kittredge received their BS degree in Industrial Engineering. Sarah is the recipient of the President's Award and Jeff is the recipient of the Nelson C. White Award.

Variable Messaging Signs Simulation

Some students from the Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering Department along with Dr Jay Wang and Dr Valerie Maier-Speredelozzi conducted a study in Warwick Mall from May 11, 2007 to May 17, 2007 related to Variable Messaging Signs. They were conducting surveys and running a simulation on a car in order to understand what is the best way to display an electronic message on a highway so that the driver understands it in a more effective and timely manner.  TRB Conference, 2007

The 86th Transportation Research Board Meeting took place in Washington D.C. from January 20 to 25. Some of the IME students attented to present their research work in different sessions. On Saturday January 20, the "Student of the Year" Award was delivered to the IME student Aaron Clark in a special event. Also during the conference, Dr. Jay Wang and Aaron Clark had the opportunity to meet and had their picture taken with Norm Mineta, former Secretary of Transportation under President Bush. Mr. Mineta had also represented California as a U.S. Congressman for 20 years, making him the longest serving transportation secretary in the history of the office. For pictures, click here.

Also attending the annual TRB conference were IME Professor Valerie Maier-Speredelozzi and Rocio Escalante who were involved in the presentation of a poster regarding Transportation Flexibility in Multinational Corporations. Jeff Severson, a IME Master's student, attended to TRB Conference too. During the TRB Conference, an event for the Eisenhower Program was being held, where IME students and professors met with Kelvin Santiago, a student who participated in a URI exchange program during the summer. Siamak Hesar, a former Master's student from IME presented a poster with Dr. Wang regarding their research on Adding Graphics to Dynamic Message Signs. For pictures, click here.
