Industrial and Systems Engineering Graduate Program: Evening Bachelor's Program

The University of Rhode Island offers an evening B.S, degree program in industrial engineering. This program is offered cooperatively by the College of Continuing Education and the College of Engineering. To make it available to those unable to attend day classes, all courses will be scheduled in the evening - approximately 70% in Providence and 30% in Kingston. This is the only program available in Rhode Island from which a B.S. in Engineering can be obtained entirely by evening courses. By taking classes and laboratories three or four nights a week according to the schedule, students who have no previous college credits will be able to earn the Bachelor of Science degree in six years. Students with some prior college credits may need less time. Those who prefer a less accelerated pace may take courses to fit their own schedule. The academic requirements of the evening program are identical to the daytime program. Students in the evening program can change to the full-time day program at any stage of their study.

Admissions

Admission to this program is a two-step process. Students are admitted initially to the College of Continuing Education according to the criteria for admissions stated in the URI Undergraduate Bulletin. Upon completion of 24 credits with a minimum grade point average of 2.00, students may apply for a transfer to the College of Engineering. These 24 credits must include CHM 101/102, EGR 105 and 106, MTH 141/142. MCE 262, and PHY 203/273 also with a 2.00 GPA. The transfer form is available in Providence.

Advising

Academic advising about general program requirements and admissions is available in the evening in Providence on a walk in basis. For specific information about the field of industrial and systems engineering, call 874-2455 to arrange an appointment with a faculty member from the College of Engineering:

Since many of the required courses are offered in the evenings only in alternate years, it is important that students in this program meet with an advisor on a regular basis to plan their programs.
