The program objectives for the M.S. (Systems Engineering) program at the University of Rhode Island are the following:

Understanding of the application of methods to increase the competitiveness of products and processes
Understanding of the relationship between product design decisions and the development of competitive products, through reduced costs and improved manufacturing efficiency.
Understanding of the systems approach to systems and industrial engineering and an ability to apply systems thinking to a broad range of industries including manufacturing, transportation, and service sectors.
Advanced proficiency in selected topics in manufacturing processes and manufacturing materials, manufacturing systems engineering, and computer applications related to manufacturing systems.
The ability to carry out an independent research study in a selected area of manufacturing systems engineering or demonstration of knowledge of a broad range of manufacturing systems engineering related topics
Advanced proficiency in student selected topics in manufacturing systems engineering, industrial engineering and related disciplines.
