Industrial and Systems Engineering Graduate Program: Master of Science
Program Mission Statement
Consistent with the missions of the University of Rhode Island, and the College of Engineering, the Master of Science program in Systems Engineering will enhance the technical skills and professional competence of graduate engineers, positioning them to improve manufacturing competitiveness.
Program Overview
Following INCOSE’s definition, the Systems Engineering program is an interdisciplinary program that enables the realization of successful systems. It focuses on defining customer needs and required functionality early in the development cycle, documenting requirements, then proceeding with design synthesis and system validation while considering the complete problem: operations, cost and schedule, performance, training and support, test, manufacturing, and disposal. It integrates all the disciplines and specialty groups into a team effort forming a structured development process that proceeds from concept to production to operation while considering both the business and the technical needs of customers, with the goal of providing a quality product that meets user needs. The program has three specializations- Service and enterprise systems, Manufacturing systems, Distributed network systems.
