URI’s engineering faculty are recognized as experts in their fields of research in academia and the private sector, and their work often makes national and international news. Following is a summary of recent COE faculty
NBC News featured mechanical engineering professor Donna Meyer in a health segment devoted to her work on wear in artificial hip and knee replacements. The same research was featured in a special exhibition in the Science Museum in London, England.
Malcolm Spaulding, ocean engineering, featured prominently in national news coverage of the Prestige oil spill off the coast of Spain. His comments on the ecological crisis were included in articles in Scientific American and the Boston Globe, as well as on radio stations in Boston and Cape Cod.
Industrial engineering professor Manbir Sodhi’s research on cell phones and driver distraction received enormous attention from major news outlets around the nation. His work was featured on ABC Evening News with Peter Jennings, Good Morning America, as well as in BusinessWeek, Science Daily, and The Providence Journal.
