G. Faye Boudreaux-Bartels has been named the chair of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at URI. Boudreaux-Bartels has a strong record of scholarly achievements and is a well-respected member of the URI community.
Boudreaux-Bartels joined the University in 1984 as the first female faculty member in the Electrical Engineering department. Since then, she has served as a professor and mentor to many engineering and other students through her work as faculty advisor to the Society of Women Engineers, member of the University’s Women in Science group, and associate dean of the Graduate School. Boudreaux-Bartels has also been instrumental in encouraging minority high school students to further their academic careers through her work with the SMILE (Science and Math Investigative Learning Experiences) Program. The recipient of three URI Faculty Excellence Awards, and the 2000 URI APAW “Woman of the Year” award, Boudreaux-Bartels serves as a member of the Leadership Team that won a $3.5-million National Science Foundation ADVANCE grant to recruit future women faculty members in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) fields to URI.
During her career at URI, Boudreaux-Bartels has received significant funding from the Office of Naval Research (ONR), Navalex and the U.S. Naval Underwater Systems Center for her research in mixed time-frequency representations, digital signal processing, digital filter design, and fast algorithms. She is a Fellow of the Institute of Electronics and Electrical Engineers (IEEE).
“Faye is an outstanding scholar and an inspirational figure for many at the University,” said Bahram Nassersharif, dean of the College. “I am delighted that she has accepted the position of chair and am confident that her vision and leadership will enable us to make significant strides in further developing the department.”
